Lactoferrin is a protein found in milk and is found in especially high levels in colostrum – the first milk which is produced right after a baby is born. Lactoferrin is also found in many bodily fluids including those found in the eyes, nose, and respiratory tract.

Lactoferrin is a popular supplement due to its function as an antioxidant and its ability to support a healthy immune system as well as its ability support tissue health as one ages.

As a supplement for immune system support we recommend taking two capsules per day (250 mg), with or without food. While higher doses can be taken safely we don’t recommend exceeding 4 capsules per day. (500 mg.)

Lactoferrin is commonly consumed in foods, and as such is not likely to cause side effects in most people when used at normal doses. If taken at high dosages (> 5 grams) side effects including rashes, loss of appetite, constipation, and diarrhea are possible. As Lactoferrin is a protein found in milk products those with lactose intolerance may experience mild gastrointestinal side effects from this product.
