Andrographis, also known as “the king of bitters” is an herb with a long history of usage in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The primary benefit for which Andrographis supplements are used are to support immune system health and there have been promising clinical trials showing its efficacy in doing so.

Double Wood’s Andrographis supplement contains a broad spectrum of Andrographis extracts per capsule including extracts standardized to 10% Andrographolides and the AP Bio patented extract standardized to 30% Andrographolides.

As a supplement for immune system health, we recommend a dosage of 500 – 1000 mg per day (1-2 capsules) taken with food. If needed dosages of up to 2000 mg can be taken, but we don’t recommend exceeding 2000 mg per day as side effects are more likely at high doses.

Andrographis is often cycled or used just when sick to improve the ability of the immune system to fight the infection, this is recommended over long term use as side effects are more likely when taking Andrographis long-term.

Andrographis is safe and well tolerated at normal doses, but adverse side effects do sometimes occur and include loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, headaches, and fatigue.

These side effects are more common at higher doses, and high dose Andrographis has been known to cause additional side effects including allergic reactions, swollen lymph glands, and elevation of liver enzymes. For these reasons we do not recommend exceeding 2000 mg per day.
